BIOGRAPHY In her community work, she co-founded the oldest student mentoring program at the University of Minnesota and she co-founded the Smooth Sailing Program for the Greater Minneapolis Girl School Council. Carol was the first female chair of the Hazelden Foundation, Vice Chair of the Minnesota News Council and Chair of the Journalism Alumni Board at the University of Minnesota. She currently serves on the boards of Voyageurs Outward Bound School, the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research at St. John’s University and the Minnesota News Council. Carol is Captain of Hot Flash Sailing, the first women’s team over the age of 50 to ever compete in the Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship held in September, 2001 and September, 2003 in Annapolis, Maryland. Carol writes, “the next Rolex race for women is 2005 and I'm thinking I HAVE to do it because I will turn 60 before the race and the race chair at the Annapolis Yacht Club has promised me hull #60 for the race!!!!” Carol is the recipient of the 2005 Minnesota Pioneering Woman Award given by the Star Tribune, WCCO TV and Radio and the Mall of America.
