BIOGRAPHY
As chief visionary and cheerleader with Joie de Vivre, Chip has always been on the cutting edge of what’s new in hospitality. At age 26, after earning a BA and an MBA from Stanford University, Chip started with The Phoenix, San Francisco’s legendary rock ‘n roll hotel. Joie de Vivre is now the largest independent hotelier in Northern California, operating twenty-eight businesses: hotels, motels, luxury campgrounds, restaurants, bars and day spas. Some of the company’s ventures—like Costanoa (escape property on the coast), Kabuki Springs & Spa (Japanese communal bath and serenity spa), and Hotel Avante (hip Silicon Valley boutique hotel)— have revolutionized their product category.
Chip has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, Time, People, the New York Times, and numerous other hospitality industry periodicals. Chip has won numerous awards including: Guerrilla Marketer of the Year from the American Travel Marketing Executives; 100 Rising Stars of the Travel Industry from Travel Agent magazine; Emerging Growth Company of the Year from the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce; National Humanitarian Hospitality Company Entrepreneur of the Year for Real Estate from Ernst & Young, and one of Lodging magazine’s 75 Most Influential Leaders in the Travel Industry.
