BIOGRAPHY
John has been an innovator in the applied behavioral sciences since he began his consulting practice. Prior to beginning his work in change and transformation he served four years as Combat Officer in the US Navy, then four years as Lutheran Chaplain. In 1973 John co-created the nation’s first competency-based graduate program in the field, the LIOS MA-ABS program through Whitworth College.

In 1980, working with Peter Vaill, John Adams, Juanita Brown and others, he co-created the first holistic computer-scored organization effectiveness survey process. In 1987, at the request of a Dutch client, John created one of the first solo leadership programs with a body-mind-spirit orientation, the Executive Development Intensive. Work and The Human Spirit placed him in the center of the movement to deepen the work of consultants and their clients. John’s corporate clients have included Marriott, GTE, Boeing, the US Army and Navy, Blue Cross-Blue Shield among others. He is the author of many articles and producer of audio and video resources, including “The Breakthrough Series” and “Facing The Tiger.”

John received a Master of Divinity Degree in 1970, having graduated in 1962 from Roanoke College. He performed post-graduate work at Cornell University in Human Ecology and at the Humanistic Psychology Institute. John is the father of four “amazing” children, runs and practices yoga daily, plays the guitar, does the occasional magic show and loves a good spy novel. He lives in Spokane, WA.
