BIOGRAPHY A graduate of Macalester College she helped found the community mental health movement in Minnesota in the late 1970’s when she successfully lobbied for resources to set in motion the change from a state hospital based mental health system to a community based system. She was an early pioneer in the microcomputer revolution in the 1980’s, ran a U.S. Senate Campaign in 1988, and started the second environmental store in the U.S. in the 90’s. She is now founder and CEO of Restore Products, her most exciting endeavor ever. Her accomplishments, based on her breadth of experience across politics, business, environmental science, psychology, and consumer products have won her many awards including: the 1996 Businesses for Social Responsibility, the 1997 Great Minnesota Green Up, the 2002 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Waste Prevention, the 2001 Minnesota Environmental Initiative, the Finance & Commerce Innovator of the Year. Restore Products was also named one of the Top 25 Companies to watch in 2005 for Twin Cities Business Monthly. When Laurie isn’t traveling on business or hiking in the Rockies, she lives in Shoreview, Minnesota where she entertains her family and friends with healthy cooking and beautiful natural surroundings. |
